This award is in memory of Thomas A. Rosene, a 1951 Central graduate who was a three-sport athlete and co-captain of his swimming team. He was to begin studies at the University of Minnesota in the fall of 1951 but suffered with an ailment that prevented him from beginning his college education. On January 3, 1952, at the age of 18, he died from a form of cancer. The 1952 Central swim team originated this award which is presented annually to the outstanding male swimmer in the Saint Paul City Conference, as chosen by the conference coaches.
