STATISTICIAN'S NOTE: The schools desired to play seven conference games (to allow for a non-conference game). With the mathematical impossibility of playing seven games by nine schools, from 1953-1961, each of the nine teams took turns in playing a conference opponent and having it not count in the standings (see the notation above the 1953 standings.) Below the standings brackets for each of these years indicates the team that had the game count as a non-conference game.
