The girls soccer team was undeniable in their quest to their first city championship match in a long time. The girls played and won their first ever play-off match against Humboldt on Friday, October 25th to win the Blue Division. Now they will get a date with Highland Park on Tuesday, October 29th from the Red Division.
Humboldt took the early lead in the first half with a 1-0 score. Farnsworth had their chances and finally capitalized when Sendy went after a loose ball and snuck it pass Humboldt's goalie just before the first half ended. In the process, Sendy sustained a left knee strain after the outcome.
In the second half, both team had chances but just could not find the net. At the end of regulation, the game was tied 1-1. The coaches and ref agreed to play two 5-minute Overtime and a 5-minute sudden death after regulation but the game was still tied. Since this game was for the division champ, someone had to lose.
Each team selected 5 players for the penalty kick. Jessica, Melody, Emma, MiSee and Eh Eh were lined up for the penalty kicks for Farnsworth. The first three players, Jessica, Melody and Emma all made their kicks. In the mean time, Davita denied the first three penalty kicks by Humboldt and that was all she wrote. MiSee and Eh Eh did not have to kick because Farnsworth won by default; with Humboldt having only two more penalty kicks left.
Both team played with so much emotion and passion for the game. It was a well played game between both side and any one team could have won. At the end, Farnsworth was undeniable in their quest for their first ever City Championship in a long time.
The City Championshiop will be held at Duluth and Case on Tuesday, October 29, 4:30 pm.
