GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES
Procedures for dealing with a grievance on recruiting, use of an academically ineligible athlete or an ineligible "transfer" within the district.
Definition of Grievance: an allegation that there has been an explicit violation, misinterpretation or misapplication of a conference rule.
PROCEDURE:
-
Grievant must notify in writing the Athletic Council within five days of receiving information on realizing the alleged infraction of conference rules.
-
The Athletic Council will notify in writing the involved school's principal and athletic director of the allegations. The school administration will have five days to act on the allegations. They will notify the Athletic Council of their action.
-
If the grievant and/or Athletic Council feel the school's action has not properly dealt with the alleged violation, a full committee hearing may be requested.
-
The Committee shall be made up of the following personnel: the Athletic Council who will serve as chairperson; one school board member and one representative from each member school.
-
A two-thirds vote of this Committee will be required on grievances concerning alleged recruiting violations and/or athletic eligibility.
POSSIBLE ACTION:
-
The school will receive a letter of censure from the Athletic Council.
-
The coach and athletic director will receive a letter of censure. If the coach and/or athletic director knew of the violation and failed to report it before the grievance, they would be subject to suspension.
-
If the same coach and/or athletic director is involved in a second similar violation their termination will be considered, or a longer period of suspension imposed.
-
The school will forfeit any game, conference or non-conference, that an ineligible player participates in.
