Since the beginning of the new year the Eagles have played three games, winning one and losing two. Each game was unique and provided a great learning experience for the team.
Friday January 6th the Eagles traveled to Central HS to take on the Minutemen. Central used tough pressure to generate multiple fast-break opportunties in the first half. While the Eagles played well in short stretches, they were ultimately defeated 28-81. The Eagles were led by Kahnen Gbojueh with six points and six rebounds and freshman Alejandro Santiago who scored six points, all in the first half.
Tuesday January 13th Washington headed to the Westside to take on the Hawks on Humboldt HS. A close contest throughout the Eagles were defeated 46-49. The Eagles were led by guards Da'Vonte Adams and Desmond Taylor with ten points a piece.
Friday January 16th the Eagles picked up their first win of 2012 with a 46-45 overtime victory over the Community of Peace Academy. Leading 20-16 at halftime the Eagles faced tougher pressure from the visitors who took the lead two minutes into the second half. The Eagles stayed strong and were able to tie the game up with a buzzer-beating layup by junior guard Desmond Taylor, who finished with a game high 15 points. In the overtime period the Eagles outscored CPA 5-4 to claim the victory.
The Eagles are off until Thursday the 19th when they host the Cougars of Como Park HS in a rematch of a 57-64 defeat. The 9th grade game will tip-off and 4 PM and the JV game follows at 5:30 PM. The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students with an ID.
