Improvement Continues
Monday, February 20, 2012 -- 2:15 pm

Over the past two weeks the Eagles have had four contests and unfortunately each were losses; however, excluding the February 7th contest against the Minnesota Transitions Wolves, all games showed marked improvement.

On February 7th the Eagles hosted the Wolves of MN Transistions and transition they did.  The Eagles were held to a season-low 20 points while the Wolves racked up 60.  Washington was led by Kahnen Gbojueh with nine points.

Friday February 10th was a momentus evening for the program because while losing 60-68 in a heated contest against the Knights of Harding High, junior center Kahnen Gbojueh set career, and potentially, school records scoring 30 points and gathering 23 rebounds.  Down 18-24 at half both teams heated up combining for 90 total points in the second half; however, Harding was able to come away with the victory.  In addition to Gbojueh, sophomore forward Tau Hyatte had a career-high 11 points and Al Libby netted ten.

Valentine's Day found the Eagles hosting the Govies of Johnson HS and the Eagles were eager to erase a mid-season thrashing at the hands of the visitors.  While the Govies controlled the first half, leading 37-21 at the break, the Eagles proved they could compete with one of the cities' top teams ultimately falling 45-63.  The Eagles were once again led by Gbojueh with 22 points and eight rebound while junior guard Dominic Goines dropped in eight.

This past Thursday the Eagles travelled to Highland Park to take on the Scots.  Although their first match-up proved a high scoring affair (68-54 victory for the Scots), the second game was played at a slower pace.  The Scots used a variety of zone defenses to confound the Eagles forcing multiple turnovers leading to easy baskets and were up 27-14 at the break.  In the second half the Eagles outscored the hosts 22-12; however, they ended up three points short.  The Eagles were led by Tau Hyatte with 14 points of which six were on two clutch three-point baskets late in the game.  Additionally, Kahnen Gbojueh and Al Libby each scored six points.

The Eagles have two contests this week.  Wednesday the 22nd they travel to Boys' Totem Town and on Thursday the 23rd they once again host the Knights of Harding.  Wednesday's game is not open to spectators; however, Thursday's contest with tip-off at 5:30 PM (with a preceeding 9th grade game) and the entrance fee is $4 for adults and $2 for students with valid IDs.
