Tuesday December 20th the host Como Park Cougars defeated the Eagles 64-57 in the conference opener for each team. The first half was a game of contrasting styles. The Cougars used dribble penetration to spread the floor and solid ball movement to free shooters on the perimeter while the Eagles worked the ball into the lane area and pounded the offensive boards. The score at half-time was 28-27 Eagles.
In the second half the Cougars applied greater defensive pressure forcing the Eagles into mulitple turnovers although when the Eagles did beat the pressure their shots were accurate. With four minutes to go the game was tied at 53 points a piece. In the final few minutes the Cougars hit a crucial three-pointer and several free-throws to finish the game off.
The Eagles were led by Desmond Taylor with 18 points and Khanen Gbojueh who scored 16 points to go along with 12 rebounds.
The Eagles are off until after the holiday when they travel to Oakdale to participate in the Tartan HS Holiday Tournament. Their first game will be Thursday December 29th at 9 AM against the host Titans. This game will be played at Skyview Middle School. The following day the Eagles will play two more games of which the times and locations are to be determined.
