  3. The senior high meet director will notify each school of the final results the morning of the next school day.

  4. On Monday, May 9, 2016, the early release schools will compete in the Middle School Relays at Highland Park; the remaining schools will compete in the Relays at Central.

  5. Entries for all meets should be faxed or e-mailed to the meet director at the corresponding meet site. Coaches involved will meet at 3:45 p.m. to make changes. Entries must be printed with first and last names used backed up with number system.

    1. Lane assignments will be given using a pre-determined format.
    2. The meet director should compile the results of the meet and send it to all schools the following school day.
    3. Competing schools should help set up and put away equipment.
    4. The results of both boys' and girls' meets should be called in by the scorer or meet director, contacting Laura Ranum by phone (767-3490) or e-mail (laura.ranum@SPPS.org) with results for Website posting.

  6. If a question based on a rule or eligibility fact arises during the course of a meet, the coach will present the point to the meet director immediately after the meet has been completed. If an event is being conducted incorrectly, the coach should report the irregularity to the meet director immediately.

  7. Squads should remain off the track when not actually competing or waiting their turn in the running event being conducted. No spikes allowed in the stands.

  8. The Rule Book adequately covers the situation of a competitor being in two events running simultaneously. Contestants must be informed by their coach of the procedure - follow it or lose their opportunity to participate.

  9. The referee/starter will follow the Rule Book in his interpretation of fouls committed either on the pole, in lanes or in starting.

  10. High schools will be responsible for supplying all workers and a Meet Director for the six middle school conference sites (Central, Como Park, Harding, Highland Park, Johnson and Washington).

  11. Limit of Participation (It is the obligation of all coaches to see that they stay within the limits of participation.)

    1. Two contestants may be entered in all races. The first two heats are the only ones scored. Unlimited entrants after that but they will not be scored. Only one heat scored in relays. Middle school coaches should make sure their exhibition runners get their times at the finish line.

    2. A contestant may participate in a total of four events (track and field) but not in excess of three track or three field events in arriving at the combination of four. If a contestant competes in three track events, only two events may be 800 meters or longer.

  12. Runners can only use 1/8" pyramid spikes.

  13. The first two heats in all races will be timed.

  14. Boys and girls may be run together in the 800 and 1600 meter run if there are fewer than sixteen entrants.

  15. Three trials will be allowed in the triple jump, long jump, high jump and shot put.

  16. Girls shot put is 6 lbs.; boys shot put is 8 lbs. Everyone should throw the same shot put at all the meets. The high schools sites should provide those weights for the middle school teams competing. As a back up, each middle school team should bring with them a boys' and girls' shotput.

MIDDLE SCHOOL JUNIOR VARSITY MEET

DATE: Friday, May 20, 2016
TIME: 4:30 p.m.
PLACE: Como Park

  1. Coaches meeting at 4:15 p.m. at starting line.

  2. Team scores will not be recorded.

  3. Anyone participating in the junior varsity meet is ineligible for the Tuesday, May 24 City Meet.

    1. We want to encourage participation so teams that have large numbers please note: Individual events only. We are only going to record times and places for the first three heats (18 runners, 6 lanes) of each individual race. These are the only heats that will be ribboned (1st-3rd place). We have nine schools eligible to compete and not all of them will attend so we will run enough heats to cover the two person entries for each school. After the scored heats are run, the schools with more than two participants can enter their other runners for exhibition heats. The starter will place them in lanes at that time. Note these runners will not be ribboned or added into the score.

    2. We will have open entries in the long jump and shot put. Make sure your field event athletes sign up right away at the jumping pit or shot put area -- they will close sign-ups early in the meet.

    3. Relays will stay the same -- only one team entry per school.

  4. Prelims in the 100 meter, 200 meter, long jump and shot put, if needed.

  5. Ribbon -- First, second and third in individual and relays events.

  6. Fax your entries to Como Park H.S., c/o Roy Magnuson (651-293-8806 or e-mail to roy.magnuson@SPPS.org) no later than Thursday, May 19.
