Middle School Wrestling

ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Middle School Wrestling Guidelines

  1. The wrestling coaches will meet on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Como Park H.S., 4:30 p.m.

  2. Team practice begins on Monday, November 16, 2015.

  3. Dual meet competition weights:
    1. 13 weight classifications (in lbs.): 80, 85, 95, 100, 105, 110, 120, 135, 145, 155, 165, 175, Hwt (not to exceed 230)

  4. Wrestlers must not exceed the weight during dual meets (no extra pounds). Students must be within five pounds of each other to wrestle each other in the first seven weights (80-120 lbs.) and within seven pounds for the remaining six weights (135-Hwt.).

  5. The physical condition of your wrestlers is extremely important. Cutting weight at any time is to be discouraged.

  6. An official will be assigned to work your home meets. The home athletic director must forward, in a timely manner, the Independent Contractor voucher, to the District Office, so that officials are paid.

  7. All wrestlers must be weighed by the athletic director or coach prior to the first meet. Wrestlers will be weighed before each match. It is the coaches responsibility to weigh their wrestlers the day prior to the meet. If the wrestler makes weight that day, they will not weigh in at the meet. If they do not make weight, then they will have to weigh in at the meet. The honor system will be used. Weight requirements after the winter break: add two pounds. All athletes will weigh-in for the City Tournament on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at a high school to be named, at which time one pound will be added to each weight group. New wrestlers must be weighed and added to this list one week before they become eligible.

  8. Coaches should have their line-up ready before arriving at their match. After all coaches arrive at the match, they will sit down and match up weights as close to their weight as possible. Each wrestler should participate in at least one match. These are not dual or triangular meets. Schools are not competing against other schools but rather matching weights and athletes.

  9. Wrestling times - each period: l minute, 30 seconds.

  10. Middle school wrestlers participating on senior high teams: a middle school student can not wrestle more than 36 matches and can not participate for more than 15 weeks.
