ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Girls Hockey Guidelines

 

Coaches of all sports, especially contact sports, are strongly advised to verbally inform all candidates for your team of the risks involved in playing athletics. Coaches are legally responsible to provide instruction on the proper techniques in hockey. Coaches should inform all candidates the option of purchasing additional accident insurance for their particular sport either for school time only or on a 24-hour basis.

 

  1. Opening day of practice is Monday, October 26, 2015.

     

  2. All coaches are encouraged to join the St. Paul Coaches Association, the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association, Inc., the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association for Girls' Sports, Inc., and the Minnesota Girls' Hockey Coaches Association.

     

  3. Practice Regulations:
    1. Junior varsity squads may practice with the varsity squads.
    2. The Athletic Council will notify the arenas of the public schools practice schedule.
    3. If you schedule outside opponents for practice games, the schools will pay for the officials.

     

  4. The rules of the National Federation will be followed. Any recommendations in these rules pertaining directly to high school will be followed.

     

  5. Misconduct - M.S.H.S.L. This rule applies to all athletes regardless of the team level.

     

  6. Safety equipment:
    1. All members of the team, including the goalie, shall wear helmets when they are playing. Chin straps shall be fastened at all times and in contact with the chin.
    2. The goalie's helmet must include protection for the entire crown, front, temple and back of head. All purchases of helmets for all players must be of the plastic cover-all type approved by the State High School League.
    3. All players shall wear face masks.
    4. All girls participating in hockey are required to wear a mouth protector in all practice and games. Dental guards must be attached to face mask and be made of non-transparent materials.
    5. It is recommended that the upper corner of the stick blade be covered with a stick pad. Tips of the stick blade must be rounded.

     

  7. Hard shell elbow pads shall be worn inside the jersey.

     

  8. The team named second in the schedule is the home team and will wear light uniforms.

     

  9. Game arrangements:
    1. The coach will provide the public address announcer, scorer and the press with his starting line-up and a list of his players and their numbers.
    2. The home team will have their choice of goal.
    3. All periods will be seventeen (17) minutes stop-time with two (2) and four (4) minute penalties. If one team has a lead of six (6) or more goals in the third period, running time will apply. Misconduct penalties will follow the rule book on procedure.
    4. In case of a tie at the end of regulation play, one eight (8) minute sudden-death overtime period will be played.
    5. The HOME coach is responsible for calling in the score. When a St. Paul team is playing on the road the St. Paul coach should contact Laura Ranum by phone (767-3490) or e-mail (laura.ranum@SPPS.org) with results of varsity games for website posting.

     

  10. Tickets purchased at the gate for any St. Paul hosted hockey game will be $3.00 for students and $5.00 for adults.

     

  11. Site supervisor responsibilities:
    1. Have officials and trainer complete the Independent Contractor vouchers and return to Athletic Secretary.
    2. In charge of game pucks and practice pucks.
    3. Liaison between arena security and schools in reporting incidents of misconduct or fan misbehavior
    4. Assist the ticket office in identifying conference passes.
    5. Complete game reports for ticket sales and submit to Athletic Secretary

     

  12. Arrangements for entertainment:
    1. All groups must be under the supervision of an adult advisor.
    2. Ice entertainment is possible only for the home team. If the home team does not have entertainment, there will be none.
    3. Bands may appear at all games if they play from the stands. At Aldrich Arena, bands are to be seated in the blue sections at the west end. Any appearance must be under the direction of the band director and all members must be in uniform. Not more than eight baton twirlers or flag twirlers will be admitted with the band. Twirlers must be on skates if they are to go on the ice.
    4. When notifying your performers of reporting time, remember to allow for flexibility of the schedule.
    5. Large groups will enter the ice rinks through the team gates.
    6. Skating units will be admitted by uniform.

     

  13. Cheerleaders:
    1. All cheerleaders going on the ice must be on skates.
    2. Cheerleaders are not to stand behind or adjacent to the player boxes.
    3. Standing against the sideboards to watch the game will not be allowed.
    4. Between cheers, cheerleaders must be seated in the front row seats.
