Sr. High Girls Swimming

 

ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Girls' Swimming/Diving Guidelines

 

  1. The coaches meeting will be Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at 12:30 p.m. at Humboldt H.S. All varsity coaches must attend this meeting.

     

  2. Practice begins Monday, August 17, 2015.

     

  3. All coaches are encouraged to join the St. Paul Coaches Association and the Minnesota State Coaches Association.

     

  4. Conference swimming records will be established based on conference duals and the Conference Meet best times and should be set in a pool with functioning touch-pads. Any record not set with pads must be timed with three watches.

     

  5. An All-Conference team shall be submitted by the coaches after the conference meet. Three swimmers shall be named in all individual events. One relay team shall be named for each of the relay events based on the four best times. A swimmer is limited to two individual events and two relays for this honor. It is up to the discretion of the coaches to add swimmers as honorable mention. This will be finalized at the post-season meeting on Monday, October 26, 2015, 5:30 p.m. at Humboldt H.S.

     

  6. The meet director shall call in the scores of all conference meets. He/She should contact Laura Ranum by phone (767-3490) or e-mail (laura.ranum@SPPS.org) with results for website posting.

     

  7. Team rosters should be submitted to Vicki Knutsen no later than Friday, August 28, 2015.


DUAL MEETS

 

  1. There will be an admission charge of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students.

     

  2. The National Federation Rule Book will be followed in the conduct of all meets.

     

  3. Both teams shall provide three timers with watches and a diving judge.

     

  4. The visiting team (listed first on the schedule) shall have choice of odd or even lanes. Once made, this choice applies to all events on the program.

     

  5. At all conference dual meets, there will be two heats per event. The first heat will be a non-scoring junior varsity heat. The second heat will be the varsity heat and this will be scored. A non-scoring fourth diver for each team may be used in the diving event.

     

  6. The Mercy Rule will be in effect when a dual meet score is becoming one-sided. The meet manager or meet official will inform the scorers table to list the remainder of the leading team's swimmers as exhibition to help balance the final score of the meet.

     

  7. The home team (in last meet of the evening) will be responsible for putting away lane lines and the coaches of both teams need to walk through locker rooms.

     

  8. Conference champion will be determined by conference dual meet standings (purchase of championship plaque will be the responsibility of the winner school).

 


SWIMMING PREVIEW RELAYS

Tuesday, September 1, 2015
Humboldt High School, 6:00 p.m.

 

  1. There will be an admission charge of $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. Tickets will be sold at the gate only.

     

  2. Events:
    1. 200-yard Medley Relay - 50 Back, 50 Breast, 50 Fly, 50 Free
    2. 850-yard Freestyle Medley - 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 500 Free
    3. 300-yard Breast/Fly Relay - 50 Breast, 100 Fly, 100 Breast, 50 Fly
    4. 200-yard Backstroke Relay - 50 Back, 50 Back, 50 Back, 50 Back
    5. 400-yard Freestyle Relay - 100 Free, 100 Free, 100 Free, 100 Free
    6. Diving Relay - Three (3) divers each doing two (2) dives from all five categories with a sixth dive optional from a dive not already done. Order: Harding, Como Park/Johnson, Central, Highland Park/SPA, Humboldt/Washington
    7. 400-yard Medley Relay - 100 back, 100 breast, 100 fly, 100 free
    8. 200-yard Freestyle Relay - 50 Free, 50 Free, 50 Free, 50 Free
    9. 400-yard Individual Medley Relay - 100 IM, 100 IM, 100 IM

     

  3. Each event will have a maximum of four heats. The first and second heats are for junior varsity, the third and fourth for varsity. Only one team will count for scoring.

     

  4. Meet manager will be responsible for printing programs.

     

  5. Each team with divers will supply a diving judge.

     

  6. Each team must supply three timers with watches. The timers will time their own team.

     

  7. NO team score will be kept for this meet.

     

  8. Warm-up Schedule:
    1. 4:00 - 5:45 - General Warm-up - swimmers and divers
    2. 5:15 - 5:45 - Sprints - Lanes 1, 2, 6
    3. 5:45 - Clear pool - Introductions

     

  9. Stop watch lane assignments:
    1. Lane 1 -- Como Park
    2. Lane 2 -- Highland Park/SPA
    3. Lane 3 -- Central
    4. Lane 4 -- Harding
    5. Lane 5 -- Johnson
    6. Lane 6 -- Humboldt/Washington

     

  10. Coaches meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Coaches bring team roster, preview swimming entry sheet, preview diving entry sheet.

JUNIOR VARSITY

  1. Seeding
    1. In order to assure seeded positions, the best competitive time of all entries must be submitted. Times shall be determined by conference meet times - non-conference times will be accepted also if the swimmer's time has been achieved in bona fide competetition and signed by a meet official.
    2. The swimming coordinator will do the seeding according to the swimming rule book and will create and print a meet program.
    3. All entry forms must be submitted to the swimming coordinator on or before Saturday, October 17, 2015. No entries will be accepted after that date. Entries must include swimming entry form and swimming entry cards.
    4. Each school may enter an unlimited number of participants in individual events and relay events. Each participant may be entered in, at most, two (2) individual events (including diving).

     

  2. Each school is required to provide three (3) timers with watches. Timers are to be on duty throughout the entire meet.

     

  3. A swimmer cannot swim in the Varsity Conference Meet if she swims in the Junior Varsity Meet (exceptions - divers).

     

  4. Awards
    1. Ribbons - to each relay participant and each individual contestant winning first through third.

     

  5. Team scores will be compiled. No team award is provided for the Junior Varsity team champions.

 

VARSITY

  1. Seeding

  2. Each school may enter two (2) relay teams in each relay event (only one can score.) Exhibition relay teams will be allowed to fill vacant lanes of junior varsity relay heats only. There will be unlimited exhibition for the 50 free style.

     

  3. The meet manager will print programs.

     

  4. Each school is required to provide three (3) timers with watches. Timers are to be on duty throughout the entire meet.

     

  5. A swimmer cannot swim in the Varsity Conference Meet if she swims in the Junior Varsity Meet (exception - divers).

     

  6. Awards:
    1. Medals to each relay participant and to each individual contestant winning first through third.
    2. Ribbons to each relay participant and to each individual contestant winning fourth through sixth.

     

  7. Team scores will be compiled. No team award is provided for the Varsity team champions.

 

DIVING

 

  1. Entry requirements:
    1. Junior Varsity Championship - 6 dives
    2. Voluntary Dive - forward group
    3. The following five dives - use the rules for a dual meet entry
    4. Varsity Championship - 11 dives (dives will be consecutive). Use the rules for a championship meet entry.

     

  2. All diving entry forms must be submitted to the swimming coordinator on or before Saturday, October 17, 2015. No diving entries will be accepted after that date. Entry must include a diving form for each diver.

     

  3. Each team with a diving entry is required to have a qualified diving judge.

     

  4. Each diver may be entered in either the Junior Varsity swimming, or Varsity swimming championship meets, but not both. Each diver may enter, at most, one individual swimming event.

     

  5. Awards:
    1. Junior Varsity Conference Diving - Ribbons 1 through 3.
    2. Varsity Conference Diving - Medals 1 through 3 and ribbons 4 through 6.

       





TWIN CITIES GIRLS' SWIMMING MEET
 

Wednesday, October 28, 2015
Mpls. Southwest, 6:00 p.m. (warm-up at 5:00 p.m.)

 

  1. The conference champion will represent the St. Paul Conference in the Twin Cities Meet. In case of tie, head-to-head competition will determine St. Paul representative. If a tie still exists the school that has not participated most recently will automatically qualify for the Twin Cities Meet.

     

  2. Tickets - Adults $5.00, students $3.00.
