Sr. High Badminton

 

ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Badminton Guidelines

 

  1. The badminton coaches will meet on Thursday, March 2, 2017, 3:15 p.m. at Washington H.S. All varsity coaches must attend this meeting.

     

  2. Practice for badminton begins Monday, March 6, 2017.

     

  3. All matches are scheduled to begin 20 minutes after the visiting team arrives, shall be played simultaneously.

     

  4. All contests will be governed by NAGWS Badminton Rules. Coaching during a match is covered in the current rulebook. Please know the rule and follow it.

     

  5. Ten (10) players will be used in each match. A contest will consist of four (4) singles and three (3) doubles. A contestant competing in a singles match may not compete in doubles.

     

  6. Every attempt should be made to have ample numbers to play both a full varsity and junior varsity match.

     

  7. The winner of each match shall score one (l) point. A match shall consist of the best out of three games.

     

  8. Teams will declare players in position and the number one player will play the number one player; the number two player will play the number two player, etc. The number one doubles team will play the number one doubles team, etc. Coaches will have the lineup in written form on arrival at the match.

     

  9. Players must play and be substituted for in the order of ability. If a #1 singles player cannot play, players #2, #3 and #4 will each move up one position and the substitute will take place at the #4 position.

     

  10. Each host coach is responsible for providing one dozen new shuttlecocks for each match.

     

  11. The host coach will have the responsibility for designating the area or areas for all spectators, including players not presently competing.

     

  12. The home team is responsible for calling in the score to the media. The results of both varsity and junior varsity matches should be called in by the HOME coach, contacting John Vosejpka by phone (651-353-1927) or e-mail (johnvosejpka1717@gmail.com) with results of both matches for website posting on the volunteer athletic site.    Contact the athletic secretary for results to be posted on the district athletic website.

     

  13. The format used for the Conference Tournament in 2016 will again be used for 2017.

     

  14. All-Conference selection will be determined by the Conference Tournament results. The top four single individuals and the top four doubles teams will be named to the All-Conference team.

     

  15. The seeding meeting for the Conference Tournament will be Monday, May 9, 2016, 3:00 p.m. at Washington H.S. in the first floor conference room.  Washington will be responsible for running the meeting.

     



VARSITY SINGLES TOURNAMENT
 

 

DATE: Wednesday-Thursday, May 10-11, 2017

SITE: Highland Park High School, 4:00 p.m.

 

 

  1. Each school may enter four (4) singles players (varsity singles 4 X 7 =28 plus top four teams get first round byes).

     

  2. A student may not enter both singles and doubles tournament.

     

  3. The tournament format will be single elimination until the semifinal round.

     

  4. Each player cannot be entered in the singles tournament unless that player has competed in a minimum of five (5) singles matches during the season.

     

  5. No more than ten minutes will be allowed between matches and one minute between games.

     

  6. Each team will bring a dozen birdies.

     

  7. Medals will be awarded to the top four (4) places.

     

  8. The site that is hosting the tournament will be responsible for hiring two people who will be in charge of running the tournament. They will be in charge of calling in or e-mailing results to Laura Ranum for website posting.

     

  9. Site location for both singles and doubles will be rotated as follows: Highland Park (2017), Humboldt (2018), Central (2019), Washington (2020), Johnson (2021), Como Park (2022) and Harding (2023).

     

  10. For the conference tournament, a #2 singles cannot be ranked in the top 4.

     

  11. #1 and #2 singles from the same school will be on opposite sides of the bracket.


VARSITY DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

 

DATE: Wednesday-Thursday, May 10-11, 2017

SITE: Harding High School, 4:00 p.m.

 

 

  1. Each school may enter two (2) doubles teams and the top two schools enter three (3) doubles teams (varsity doubles 2 X 7 = 14 plus top two add #3 = 16 teams).  Doubles teams based on TEAM CONFERENCE RECORD.

     

  2. A student may not enter both singles and doubles tournament.

     

  3. The tournament format will be single elimination.

     

  4. Each player cannot be entered in the doubles tournament unless that player has competed in a minimum of five (5) doubles matches during the season.

     

  5. No more than ten minutes will be allowed between matches and one minute between games.

     

  6. Each team will bring a dozen birdies.

     

  7. Medals will be awarded to the top four (4) places.

     

  8. The tournament directors will be in charge of calling or e-mailing in results to Laura Ranum for website posting.

     

  9. For the conference tournament, a #2 doubles cannot be ranked in the top 4.

     

  10. #1 and #2 doubles from the same school will be on opposite sides of the bracket.


JUNIOR VARSITY SINGLES AND DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

 

DATE: Wednesday-Thursday, May 10-11, 2017

SITE: Como Park High School, 4:00 p.m.

 

  1. Each school may enter four (4) singles and doubles teams.  JV singles and doubles 4 X 7 = 28 plus top four teams get first round byes = 32.

     

  2. A student may not enter both singles and doubles tournament.

     

  3. Top four teams will be seeded with byes, the remainder randomly drawn.  The tournament format will be single elimination.

     

  4. No more than ten minutes will be allowed between matches and one minute between games.

     

  5. Each team will bring a dozen birdies.

     

  6. Medals will be awarded to the top four (4) places.

     

  7. The site that is hosting the tournament will be responsible for hiring two people who will be in charge of running the tournament. They will be in charge of calling in or e-mailing results to Laura Ranum for website posting.

     

  8. Site location will be rotated as follows: Como Park (2017), Central (2018), Humboldt (2019), Harding (2020), Washington (2021), Highland Park (2022) and Johnson (2023).
