ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Boys' Tennis Guidelines

 

  1. The tennis coaches will meet on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, 3:00 p.m., at Highland Park Senior High. All varsity coaches must attend this meeting.

     

  2. Opening date for practice is Monday, March 28, 2016.

     

  3. All coaches are encouraged to join the St. Paul Coaches Association and the Minnesota State Coaches Association.

     

  4. All varsity matches are scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m. with the following exceptions:  Washington varsity home matches (3:30) and away matches (4:00).  Johnson home and away start at 4:00.  Washington j.v. matches are at 3:15 home or away.

     

  5. Warm-ups will be limited to ten (10) minutes before each match.

     

  6. Each home coach is responsible for providing fourteen new tennis balls for each match.

     

  7. The home coach will have the responsibility for designating the area or areas for all spectators, including players not presently competing.

     

  8. The schedule posted will be followed. The only cause of postponement shall be inclement weather. Arrangements for a rescheduled date will be made by the schools.

     

  9. Should rain occur during a tennis match, the match will be halted for fifteen minutes to determine weather conditions. If the match must be rescheduled due to weather, the match will resume at the point where it was suspended.

     

  10. The teams will declare their individuals/doubles teams in position (with #1 playing #1, #2 playing #2, etc.)

     

  11. Coaches may talk to players when they are changing sides between games in a set. Conditions:
    1. Such consultations may take place during the normal one-minute change only and must not delay the set.
    2. Games cannot be interrupted for consultations.
    3. Players may not leave the court but may talk to the coach along the side of the court or at the fence adjacent to their court.

     

  12. The winning team should call in the scores to the papers. The results of the varsity and junior varsity match should be called in by the WINNING coach, contacting Laura Ranum by phone (767-3490) or e-mail (laura.ranum@SPPS.org) with results for website posting.

     

  13. All contests will be governed by the National Lawn Tennis Association Rules.

     

  14. Play consists of two out of three sets with the twelve point tie-break when needed (6-6 score). Refer to the MSHSL Handbook and Bulletin for additional information.

     

  15. All-Conference selections will be made at the post-season meeting. Number of selections will be determined by conference standings: 1st place, 4; 2nd and 3rd, 3; 4th and 5th, 2; 6th, 1
 

BOYS' TWIN CITIES TENNIS MATCH

DATE: Tuesday, May 10, 2016
TIME: 4:00 p.m.
PLACE: Minneapolis is host

 

  1. If two teams tie for the conference championship, the entry for the Twin Cities Match will be the winner of their dual meets during conference play. If a tie still exists the school that has not participated most recently will automatically qualify for the Twin Cities Match.

     

  2. Contest - four singles and three doubles.

     

  3. Ten players will constitute a team.

     

  4. Balls will be furnished by the host school.
