Sr. High Cross Country

 

ST. PAUL CITY CONFERENCE: Cross-Country Guidelines

 

  1. Cross-country coaches meeting will be Thursday, August 18, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. at Johnson H.S., Principal's Conference Room. All varsity coaches must attend this meeting.

     

  2. Practice will begin on Monday, August 15, 2016.

     

  3. Meets will start at 3:30 p.m. for the girls, followed by the boys at approximately 4:10 p.m.

     

  4. The course will be 5000 meters long for boys and 5000 meters long for girls.

     

  5. Teams will come dressed. Dressing rooms and shower facilities are not available.

     

  6. Scoring will follow N.C.A.A. regulations. A Games Committee of three coaches shall be appointed prior to the first meet and they are from Como Park, Harding and Highland Park.

     

  7. All coaches are encouraged to join the St. Paul Coaches Association and the Minnesota State Coaches Association.

     

  8. The Conference championship will be determined by the conference meet. Schools may enter from one to nine individuals. You must declare who your varsity runners are for the conference meet. The entry list with the names and grade level must be turned in to the Meet Supervisor at the last regular meet and e-mailed to the athletic director in charge of cross-country so a roster containing all the varsity entries can be made available for the conference meet. There will be specific medals awarded to the top ten runners. The junior varsity runners finishing in the top 15 receive ribbons in the chute.

     

  9. The Meet Supervisor will call in the team scores and mail individual detailed results to each coach after every meet. He/She will also contact Laura Ranum (651-767-3490) with results for website posting.

     

  10. All-Conference Team selection -- the top 15 finishers, in both boys' and girls', at the Conference Meet are named to the All-Conference Team. All-Conference honorable mention and Coach of the Year will be named at the post-season meeting on Thursday, November 10, 2016 -  4:45 at Johnson H.S., Principal's Conference Room.

     

  11. Kevin M. Ales Memorial Award -- Kevin was a senior at Highland Park in 1987 when on January 6, he suffered a fatal brain aneurysm at swimming practice and died on January 8.  He was a multiple sport athlete and competed in cross-country running for Highland Park.  He was active in school, sports and his community.  The Kevin Ales Award goes to the senior athletes who exemplified good conduct and behavior, high character, positive contributions to school and community and promotes team spirit and loyalty.  Submit your candidates to the athletic director in charge of cross-country  by Wednesday, October 5, 2016.

Order of Events:

 

  1. 4:00 -- Eleventh and Twelfth grade girls -- 4000 meters.
  2. 4:30 -- Eleventh and Twelfth grade boys -- 5000 meters.
  3. 5:00 -- Seventh-Tenth grade girls -- 4000 meters.
  4. 5:25 -- Seventh-Tenth grade boys -- 4000 meters.

Monday, September 21, 2015, 3:30 p.m. at Battle Creek Regional Park

Format:

  1. Boys varsity -- two person teams -- 5 X 800 each (each team completes 10)
  2. Girls varsity -- two person teams -- 5 X 800 each (each team completes 10)
  3. Boys junior varsity -- two person teams -- 4 X 800 each (each team completes 10)
  4. Girls junior varsity -- two person teams -- 4 X 800 each (each team completes 10)

Order of Events:

  1. 3:30 -- Boys varsity and junior varsity
  2. 4:15 -- Girls varsity and junior varsity
